FAQ and Misconceptions About Atheism:

I'm going to try to compile a list of questions I've been asked as an atheist as well as misconceptions I've come across about atheists. This page is new, so I hope it will grow over time. If you have any ideas on things to add, shoot me a comment in the Join form or an email: atheist[at]sneakingunder.com.

FAQ

Q: Do you believe in the devil? (A co-worker asked me this in all seriousness.)
A: Of course not. If I don't believe in god, why would I believe in the guy he created to do evil? It doesn't make sense.

Misconceptions

Associating with an atheist will get you sent to hell.
Another thing one of my co-workers said; that she didn't want to be hanging around with any atheists because she didn't want them to drag her to hell. It doesn't make sense to me that this would be the case. Who you come in contact with should not be judged against you by the Christian God from what I know about Christianity. If you are unsure, ask an authority in your religion. I would guess that they would tell you that this cannot be the case, because if you are supposed to avoid contact with the godless, how would you ever convert them? Think on that. Also, we have no desire to send you to hell. We don't believe in it. Even if we did, we wouldn't wish something horrible like that on you.

Atheists are amoral.
I've heard the idea thrown around that you need god to have morals. This is not the case. Atheists have morals and ethics just like anyone else; we have an understanding of right and wrong. This should not surprise people.

If you're an atheist, life has no meaning.
I have no idea how this got started. There must be people out there who think that the only meaning in life is god. I feel bad for those people. Life can have whatever meaning you give it. Personally, I think I am here to make the world a better place in any way that I can. That's the meaning of life for me. It could be different for anyone else, because, as I said, you assign your own meaning to your life.
